Brain Break Bookmarks — FAQ

Short answers to common questions.

Do I need the Chrome extension to use Bookmarks?

No. Open /bookmarks in any modern browser—you’ll complete Google sign-in if you aren’t already. The extension is separate; it handles timed Brain Break prompts, not this grid.

Is the bookmarks grid private?

/bookmarks shows only your signed-in account’s tree (same Google account as Brain Break). Someone else opening the URL on their device sees their own bookmarks after they sign in, or a sign-in prompt—not your collection.

Why do I sign in with Google?

Viewing the grid, running typing challenges, and editing in admin all use the same Google OAuth and a short-lived token stored in your browser. That keeps each person’s bookmarks separate on the server, aligned with the main site and extension.

Google Image Search opened in a new tab—why?

Google blocks embedding its search pages in other sites’ frames. Opening a new tab is the reliable way to show results after the typing step.

Nothing opened after I finished typing—what now?

Some browsers block pop-ups or new tabs unless the action comes directly from your click. Complete the phrase from the bookmark tile interaction; if it still fails, check the browser’s pop-up settings for this site.

Where is bookmark data stored?

Items you create in admin are stored in the Brain Break server database (folders, phrases, image URLs, order). Images themselves are loaded from the URLs you provide—we do not host the image files unless those URLs point to our infrastructure.

Can learners change the tree?

Only signed-in editors using /bookmarks/admin can change the structure. On /bookmarks you browse and run typing challenges for your own tree—you must be signed in to load it.

Who can I contact about Brain Break?
